Common Heat Pump Problems in Long Island

If you own one, you will know that heat pumps are versatile, energy efficient and cost effective devices that can both heat and cool your home. However, when they break down on you, they can create quite a few problems. Fortunately, you can protect your heat pump from malfunctioning by keeping track of how it is operating, as well as repairing small issues before they become major ones.

Below is a short list of a few common issues that we see pertaining to heat pumps:

Malfunctioning Compressor: The compressor built inside of your heat pump pushes refrigerant throughout your unit to ease the heating process. A malfunctioning compressor could be the result of faulty electrical wiring or other defective components. At Rebmann Plumbing, we will diagnose the malfunctioning compressor, replace any damaged components or even the entire compressor if need be.

Frozen Lines: If you do not keep up to date with your heat pump (e.g. keeping it clean or giving it a break every so often), then your lines could become frozen over time. A professional at Rebmann Plumbing will be able to determine the cause of your frozen lines and perform the repairs needed to make sure that such a problem will not occur again. The repairs generally include cleaning the heat pump, replacing filters or replacing the capacitors.

Burned Wires: Your heat pump’s wiring is responsible for making sure that all of its components are connected and properly running. They can become damaged as a result of a power surge, rodent activity or poor insulation. At Rebmann Plumbing, we can inspect all electrical connections and replace faulty or damaged wiring as needed.

Damaged or Defective Fans: If your heat pump has a damaged or defective fan, then it likely will not start. As time passes by or if your unit overexerts itself, fan blades will progressively deteriorate or the capacitor that powers the fan can fail. We will be sure to check to make sure that your fan is in working order and we will also be able to make all repairs or replacements necessary.

Condenser Problems: The condenser is an important part of the air heating process that occurs inside of your heat pump. If the condenser somehow begins to fail, the refrigerant will be incapable of warming the air passing through your heat pump. The most common causes of condenser failure are either a poor wiring job or filth-ridden evaporator coils. If you turn to Rebmann Plumbing for help, we will examine your condenser to figure out which of these problems you are dealing with. We will then replace the condenser, fix the poor connections or clean the coils depending on what we find.

Faulty Blowers: Did you know that the blower component of your heat pump is largely responsible for transferring air into your home after it has been heated up? Well, it is. So, if your blower has a poor connection or a malfunctioning capacitor, you will not be on the receiving end of any conditioned air. If that’s the case, then we will inspect your blower and look into replacement and repair work that needs to be done to get your unit running again.
