Finding water shut-off important first step
The water would not stop running behind this person’s wall and she couldn’t find the main water shut-off. It is very important that you know where not only your home’s main water shut-off is located, but all of the other shut-offs to fixtures throughout the house. If you don’t know where yours are, give us a call and we’ll help you find them. Here is what you should do if your home has a pipe break:
- The first thing you need to do is find the main stop, shut off your water, and call a plumber as soon as you can. The main shut-off is usually in the area were the municipal line connects with your home’s plumbing. In some homes it will be located under the kitchen sink. Again, call Rebmann if you’re not sure where yours are located.
- If you can, find the exact spot where the pipe broke. If the affected pipe has a small crack, you might be able to patch it temporarily to limit the damage. However, if the problem is a major break in one of your main pipes, you’ll need to call a plumber as soon as you can.
- If there are any electronic devices in the area of the break, remove them as fast as you can to eliminate the risk of electrocution.
If one of your pipes ever breaks, take the above steps and then call Rebmann immediately.
