1. Use cold water when the disposal is running. Hot water melts fats allowing them to more easily stick to disposal blades and pipes causing quicker deterioration.
2. Do not stuff the disposal full of waste and then turn it on—this may overrun the system. Your best bet is to add small chunks at a time.
