What are HVAC Ventilators?
There are two types of HVAC ventilators. ERV, or Energy Recovery Ventilators, are systems designed to transfer heat and moisture between the fresh air coming into your home and the stale air moving out. In the summer months, these systems utilize a heat exchanger that takes heat from the warm and humid air leaving your home and uses it to preheat the cold and dry air coming into your home. In the winter, the process is reversed, and the system uses the cool and dry air exiting your home to cool and dehumidify the incoming warm air.
HRV ventilators, or Heat Recovery Ventilators, operate using the same principles. However, they are not designed to transfer moisture, so they won’t help regulate humidity levels within your home. For this reason, we don’t recommend them for our hot and humid climate unless you have a whole-home dehumidifier and humidifier system installed.  Â
Four Benefits of Installing a Whole-Home Ventilator
There are many reasons we recommend whole-home ventilators for homeowners in Long Island. Some of the main benefits you’ll enjoy when you choose these systems for your home include:
- Improves indoor air quality: Whole-home ventilators help remove indoor pollutants, including allergens, cleaning chemicals, and other odors.
- Reduces humidity: ERVs are designed to help control indoor humidity levels. This helps protect your home against mold and mildew while also making it feel cooler and more comfortable.
- Improves comfort:Â Improving air circulation will make your home more comfortable and create a pleasant, relaxing environment. It can also help you sleep easier.Â
- Reduces utility bills: Optimizing indoor temperature helps reduce long-term energy consumption and your annual heating and cooling expenses.
Our HVAC Ventilator Installation Process
Our thorough installation process ensures the proper operation of your system. We start by identifying your needs based on the size of your home and the number of occupants. Once the appropriate size is determined, we’ll select a suitable location to install the unit. We’ll take into account any structural requirements, including ductwork routing, as well as requirements for servicing.
Once we’ve addressed the installation details, we’ll install the whole-home ventilator in the optimal location. We’ll connect it to your ductwork, seal the system, insulate it as required, and install the appropriate grilles and vents to facilitate airflow. Next, we’ll mount the unit, connect it to your power supply and drains, ensure the filters are properly secured, and tell you how to access and replace them.Â
Finally, we’ll test the system and show you how to operate and maintain the unit. It’s a complex process that typically takes two to three days. Before installation, we’ll give you an accurate timeline based on your property and the requirements of your system.Â
